NUUO IP Based Security Products FAQ

There is a new trend in security systems where they are leaving analog camera systems and moving over to IP based security cameras and NVR systems.  This leap in technology requires some new skills and basic understanding of networks to correctly implement them and prevent any outages on the client’s network or cause any outages.  This requires some preplanning and configuration to make the installation as painless as possible.

  1. Do I need to talk to the Network Admin or Network Engineer of the Client?

Yes, you must consult with the company client’s network manager prior to installing an NVR or NUUO Mini, if you are planning to connect to their network.

  1. Is the NUUO Mini plug and play ready?

No, the NUUO Mini requires that you install and configure the drives, setup the IP address, add the IP cameras to the NUUO Mini system, and configure the system password.  There are also many additional features that may need to be configured as needed. (You will need a PC or laptop to connect to the NUUO mini to configure it.)

  1. How do I connect to the NUUO Mini?

You connect via a network connection through a web browser like IE8.  For IE7 and IE8 you may need to configure additional security setting to correctly connect. In the address line you would type (Ex.  http://192.168.1.50).

  1. What is the minimum amount of equipment needed to setup a NUUO Mini?

You will need a network switch, network cable, the IP cameras you plan on using, and a computer or laptop connected to the Ethernet switch.

  1. How do I find my NUUO NAS Mini on the network?

You will use the installation disk which comes with the NAS Mini and use the configuration wizard to set the IP address and password of the system.  After that you can connect via internet browser to configure additional settings.

  1. What is POE?

It is a system to safely transfer electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard Category 5 cable in an Ethernet network. It does not require modification of existing Ethernet cabling infrastructure.

  1. What equipment is needed for POE?

You will need a POE switch, POE cameras and cat 5 cabling.

  1. Do all cameras have POE (power over Ethernet) capability?

No only some cameras have built in POE capability.  But, there is a device that you can add for additional cost to give a non-POE cameras the ability to use POE.

  1. How should cameras be connected to an existing network?

To avoid impacting critical network services or overloading the network, the cameras and NVR (Network Video Recorder) should be on it’s own SUBNET and bridged to the existing network if needed to avoid network congestion.

  1. How many Ethernet connections does the NUUO NAS Mini have?

The current version models 2040, 4080, and 4160 have only one RJ45 connection that supports 10/100/1000 Mbps connections.

  1. Can I ship with drives installed?
